14 years ago an event changed the direction of my life forever. It was September 2002, I was a budding young scientist studying for my honours year exams. For me, exams and grades were everything, I was an extremely high achiever and a straight ‘A’ student. I had won scholarships, awards and was “destined for great things” according to my professors.
